Responsibilities:

  • Schedule & create the agenda for IDSSA Executive Team meetings
  • Liaise between the IDS department and student body, ensuring an accurate representation of student views
  • Attend ISID faculty committee meetings, ISID governing board meetings, etc.
  • Take part of AUS President Roundtable meetings

VP Academic

Useful Qualities:

  • Organized/good time management 
  • Strong communication skills 
  • Good at delegating and managing teams 

Responsibilities:

  • Hire coordinators to help you carry out your mandate 
    • Curriculum coordinator  (to create curriculum feedback forms/surveys and the curriculum feedback report)
    • Opportunities and outreach (to post outreach opportunities every week)
    • Mentorship program coordinator (to help manage the mentorship program and help manage the tutoring program)
  • Hire peer tutors 
  • Actively manage and organize the mentorship program
  • Represent the concerns of your peers regarding any aspect of academics with IDS program

VP External

Useful Qualities:

  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Enthusiasm (willingness to sit through long meetings)
  • Good “people skills”

Responsibilities:

  • Attend AUS Legislature Meetings
  • Communicate with other departments’ VP Externals
  • Organize the IDPCC (International Development Policy Case Competition)

VP Finance

Useful Qualities:

  • Organized/good time management 
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with other portfolios
  • Comfortable with excel and spreadsheets

Responsibilities:

  • Advise the association on all financial matters
  • Actively seek out funding for activities and events
  • Prepare the budget for ratification by the executive team and AUS
  • Keep meticulous records of all expenses and work closely with each member to ensure that the budget properly reflects the association’s plan for the year
  • Fill out reimbursement forms when necessary 

VP Internal

Useful Qualities:

  • Ability to communicate with people outside of McGill Community
  • Organized/good time management
  • Strong team-working skills 
  • Experience with spreadsheet software

Responsibilities:

  • Organize merch
    • Sending out order form 
    • Gather money 
    • Interact with the production company 
    • Distribute merch 
    • Coordinate with VP Finance 
  • Help VP External with IDPCC competition 
  • Coordinate IDS Student Involvement Award 
    • Communicate with professors in IDS department 
  • Internal logistic activities
    • Creating the Office Hours schedule 
    • Organizing internal bonding events within the IDSSA exec team
    • Managing bookings for: rooms, tables, venues, etc. 

VP Communications

  • Experience with social media and making graphics 
  • Ability to lead a small team 

Responsibilities:

  • Run all of the IDSSA social media (mainly Instagram and Facebook)
  • Update and edit the website 
  • Create and send out the listserv each week 
  • Manage and respond to any inquiries sent to the IDSSA email
  • Hire and oversee a team of coordinators
    • Content coordinator(s) (to help create graphics and work on the social media/come up with content ideas)
    • Design Coordinator (to create designs and graphics for the social media and website)
    • Translation coordinator (to translate any necessary social media or listserv content into French)

VP Events

Responsibilities:

  • Manage portfolio

    • Logistics Events Coordinator

VP Publications

  • Leadership, willingness to take on projects
  • Self-starter–ability to meet and manage deadlines
  • Familiarity with and experience in IDS-related school journals
  • IDS writing and research-related experience preferable
  • Familiarity with website management preferable, not required

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for running and managing Catalyst McGill team and website
    • Organize weekly Catalyst exec team meetings
    • Hire, onboard new Catalyst staff
    • Liaise with Managing Editors to create publishing schedule, manage and publish articles
    • Communicate with Catalyst team to ensure writers, editors have sufficient support
    • Responsible for maintenance of Catalyst website
    • Write editorials, etc. as desired
  • Responsible for publishing Chrysalis Journal
    • Hire Chrysalis Editorial Board, peer reviewers, etc.
    • Manage and successfully advertise submissions to Chrysalis
    • Organize and run submission review meetings
    • Oversee editing and peer review process
    • Hire graphic designers, as needed, for layout design
    • Liaise with IDS professors in order to hire peer review mentors
    • Ensure journal is printed, host launch party
